Hemswell History
Over the previous 2 to 3 years, we have seen a sustained increase in the amount of post consumer plastic bottles purchased from our regular suppliers.
As a UK Environment Agency Approved Exporter we have, until recently, exported this material to approved outlets in Hong Kong.
With volumes of bottles brokered exceeding 2000 ton per month we were able to justify sorting and processing the mixed plastic bottles in the UK. This has led to the opening, of our new Hemswell plastic bottle sorting / processing plant in 2006. The 45,000 square feet Hemswell site in Lincolnshire was selected for its central location relative to the existing UK and Irish feedstock supply.
Processing at Hemswell
One of the most technically advanced plants in Europe, much of Hemswells sorting technology is provided by German company Titech. The majority of the plastic bottles processed at Hemswell end up being granulated into a flake at the plant, prior to sale to plastic companies both in the UK and overseas. The plastic recovered from the bottles ends up in a wide variety of new plastic products including fleece jackets, pipes, packaging, toys etc.
Hemswell is the largest plastic bottle sorting plant in the UK. The plant was constructed to allow for the installation, if required, of a second line which will increase production to 100,000 ton per annum.
